Afghanistan will take on West Indies in the 2nd ODI of the series played in India tomorrow. Afghanistan has lost its last 10 one day internationals including the series opener against West Indies. Now they have an uphill task in trying to salvage the series against the island nation on Saturday. They will be keen to draw level against West Indies.
Afghanistan team preparations
Afghanistan registered an emphatic victory against Bangladesh in the test and T20I series. Rashid Khan began his tenure as the Afghanistan captain in the ODI format with a defeat. They suffered a 7 wicket loss to West Indies on Wednesday in Lucknow. The magnitude of this result can be realized in the way they were outplayed. However, there were moments in the game when they could have been in a dominant position however, they ended up handing over the advantage to the opposition. They have experienced the same problem in the past. After they were asked to bat first they slowly gained an upper hand to reach 126 for 2 in 27th over. However, they lost their way thereafter to stumble to 194 all out. Nabi bowled well and with discipline but both he and Rashid Khan failed to take a wicket. They will look to address this problem in the upcoming matches.
West Indies team preparations
West Indies has gone to a new skipper Kieron Pollard in this series and it has resulted in the team putting up a complete performance under him. The West Indies bowling was high quality and the former skipper led the way with 2 for 21 from his 10 overs. West Indians now have a chance to clinch the series right here which will be their first series win in ODI since August 2014. Holder along with Sheldon Cottrell reduced Afghanistan to 15 for 2 by the time 6th over was bowled. Ikram Ali Khil and Rahmat Shah revived the West Indian innings with a century partnership at a decent pace. However, the runout of Ikram meant the beginning of a collapse that saw Afghanistan lose their last 8 wickets for just 68 runs.
We can expect light winds on Saturday with temperatures hovering around 25-30 degrees. These conditions will be helpful to the new ball bowlers in the initial part of the innings. Both captains will be tempted to field first if they are to win the toss. I will wager on West Indies to win this match and the series.
Afghanistan, West Indies.
