All India versus Australia battles are keenly contested affairs and this battle yesterday was no exception. India defeated the defending champs by 36 runs to record their second win of the tournament and established their credentials as one of the tournament favorites. Australia showed the usual spirit while chasing a big total India put on board but the chase was not to be a successful one. Australia made a good start to the title defense with 2 straight victories but have suffered the first defeat at the hands of one of the tournament favorites. Pakistan was scheduled to play their last match against Sri Lanka on June 07 but the match had to be called off due to rain without a ball being bowled.
Australia Team Preparations
The Aussies made a decent enough start to their world cup campaign with 2 straight victories and this had brought them back in contention for the title. But they have suffered a loss against India which would have set them back a bit. But they will not be worried yet as there is still a long way to go in the league stage of the tournament. They will fancy their chances against the unpredictable Pakistan team in the 17th match of the tournament. Warner and Finch got the Aussies off to a good start against India. But apart from a brief show of resistance none of the batsmen played a long innings except Steve Smith. Nathan Coulter Nile bowled well initially in the match to restrict the Indian batting charge a bit. Australians will be keen to win this match against Pakistan as two losses in a row will put a damper on their chances to win a place in the semi-finals.
Pakistan Team Preparations
Pakistan had reported a fully fit team for the match against Sri Lanka which did not take place. After having beaten the tournament favorites England it is pretty much a certainty that they will go into this encounter against Australia with an unchanged side. Shoaib Malik is having a tough time justifying his place in the side in his last World Cup. He was not picked to play in one of the games and was asked to bat at number 7 slot in another game. He along with Hafeez will continue to keep out Imad Wasim who is a bowler. Mohammad Amir looks to be revitalized and this would have perked up the Pakistan bowling attack a lot. The Pakistan bowling will be put to test against a formidable batting lineup against Australia.
The unpredictable nature of the Pakistan cricket team makes it nigh impossible to predict the result of their matches. Australia has suffered their first setback in the tournament as well. But all-in-all Australia will definitely start the match as favorites.
