After their narrow T20I series victory over India, New Zealand is now hosting an ODI series against Bangladesh starting Wednesday. New Zealand will be looking to make the most of their last series before the world cup in England. The three-match series followed by the 2 practice games against West Indies and India in May is all they get before the WC opener against Sri Lanka in Cardiff, England. The kiwis will be taking heart from the fact that they have never lost an ODI against Bangladesh at home. But the 4-1 series loss to India is likely to play on their minds as they face another Asian team Bangladesh.
New Zealand Team Preparations
New Zealand is yet to resolve its batting problems as the opener Colin Munro has not yet cracked the batting issues and as a result, Henry Nicholls will continue opening and together with the recuperated Guptill. They will hope for the best as Guptill himself is not in a great form either. This series will also test the Kiwi bowling unit as the Indians had them on the mat except for the one match in which they managed to bundle out the Indian batting lineup for next to nothing. But that could be attributed to a bad day for India.
Bangladesh Team Preparations
The winless record of Bangladesh in their 4 previous tours of New Zealand is bound to play on their minds in the series and the matters have been made worse by the absence of Shakib Al Hasan due to an injury. The Bangladesh preparations will be severely affected by his absence. The flat tracks in New Zealand will be good preparation for even flatter tracks in England for the WC. But they will have sufficient games to get all the team members to be match fit before the world cup. They are also playing a tri-series against West Indies and Ireland after this.
Everyone is getting geared up for the World Cup and you can expect a hard-fought cricket series as a result. But considering the dubious Bangladesh record in New Zealand in the past and the absence of the key player, we can safely place the money on New Zealand for the opening match of the series.
Bangladesh, New Zealand.
