Delhi Capitals go into this match with a younger and slightly better batting lineup. While Chennai has 3 world class spinners up their sleeve and they are the main weapon for CSK in this match. Delhi lost both their matches against CSK in IPL 2019 but they have won 8 out of the last 10 matches played this year. Another factor that must be on the minds of the CSK team is that they lost a lot of matches towards the end of the league stage and they have also lost the first qualifier to Mumbai Indians. This match will be played at Visakhapatnam which has been a good venue for the DC team. They won both the matches they played at this venue this year. So, there are many things going for the Delhi team this year but can they pull one across the team of the best captain India has ever had? All this points to an exciting prospect in tomorrow’s match.
Chennai Super Kings Team Preparations
Chennai lost their last match to Mumbai Indians rather tamely at their home ground. This kind of loss is likely to have shaken the unflappable Dhoni as well. However, they have struggled with their batting lineup right through the tournament. They are at their best in slow turning pitch conditions which their spinners can exploit to the hilt. So, the wicket here at Visakhapatnam has slowed a great deal and is showing clear signs of offering spin to the bowlers. It is unlikely that Chennai will make drastic changes to the side though. Raina, Rayadu, Watson, and Vijay none have performed consistently this year. The only real exceptions being Dhoni himself and du Plessis. They badly need Raina and Watson to come good for the remainder of the tournament. The bowling attack has been performing a lot better though. Along with the 3 top spinners the opponents have to contend with Bravo and Chahar who are doing a commendable job of containment but they will need their batsmen to put defendable scores on board.
Delhi Capitals Team Preparations
DC managed to record their first playoff victory in their history against Sunrisers but it was a hard fought win. It looked at one stage that Guptill was taking the game away from them but Hyderabad batting lineup collapsed in the middle overs. The young Delhi players batted spiritedly with contributions from Prithwi Shaw, Rushabh Pant, Shreyas Iyyer, and Shikhar Dhawan. They are definitely a better batting lineup than CSK. They used some all-rounder options in their last match in the form of Keemo Paul and Rutherford. They lengthen the batting lineup and it is a protection against a possible collapse. The bowling attack has looked pretty sharp in the last few matches with the wily Amit Mishra doing some fine pyrotechnics with another old warhorse Ishant Sharma also contributing. The two West Indians along with Axar Patel and Trent Boult makes for a decent bowling attack.
Those 2 losses to CSK in the league stage will play on the minds of the Delhi team but the CSK team is not looking as invincible as it did at the beginning of the tournament. The pitch conditions are likely to suit CSK more but their batting is not looking very dependable at the moment. All things considered, I will go with CSK for this one.
