England provided a solid thumping to West Indies in the second T20I and it was a victory by no less than 137 runs which is a huge margin of defeat for the 2 times champions in this format of the game. They will be determined to fight back in the last game and put behind this horrific display but are up against a confident team and it is difficult to imagine them turning this around. Losing a match badly is one thing but the 2 times T20I world champions came close to setting the dubious record of the lowest ever T20I total and they just avoided it somehow. Although this is a massive blot on their glorious T20I resume.
West Indies Team Preparations
The Caribbeans need to try and salvage some pride out of the series in the final match of the series after a humiliating defeat in the second T20I. The batting collapsed against a consistent bowling attack for 45 runs. Arguably there was pressure on the team to score a good total posted by England of 182 runs. They needed a good start which was not to be and the collapse started early in the first overs itself with only 2 players managing a score in double figures. You can expect several changes to the side after this disastrous outing from the West Indies. Even Chris Gayle might be rested to make way for John Campbell who will make his debut in the T20 format.
England Team Preparations
British will be looking to end the tour on a high and will be surely aiming for a 3-0 clean sweep. They destroyed the hosts in the second match and now are sitting on an unassailable lead of 2-0. Billing’s knock of 87 has opened another option for the England ODI team as he must have presented a solid case for a spot in the WC side. His 87 came in just 47 balls as he aided the team in reaching a respectable total of 182 runs. England was moving slowly in their innings until he arrived at the crease. But the real heroes of the England victory were the bowlers led by Chris Jordan who had amazing figures of 4 for 6 and he too has reminded the England selectors of his chances for the WC. Another prospect is Malan who will be expecting a look in for the final match of the series.
It is not so much as fact that England won the second match but the manner in which they won it speaks a lot about the West Indies psyche at the moment. England will be gunning for a 3-0 whitewash and it will take a brave man to predict against the result. West Indies look down and out but well, it is a game and strange things happen. I will go with an England win for the final match.
England, West Indies.
