India and Australia lock horns again in the final match of the ODI series on Wednesday. This match will decide the series winner and the winning team will carry a huge advantage going into the World Cup starting later in the summer. The series is locked at 2-2 at the moment with Australia having the advantage of the momentum is with them with some amazing victories against the Asian giants. They would have avenged the treatment India handed out to them in the last series down under if they succeed. If India does lose the match and the series it is going to be a tough pill to swallow going into the world cup. Australia proved a point by recording their highest successful run chase in the last match and this was also the highest score chased by any team against the men in blue. With Smith and Warner slated for a return later this month, we have a tough unit on our hands for the World Cup.
India Team Preparations
Indians have never looked so flat for a long time either at home or traveling. They are hit with some serious issues like loss of form, lack of killer instinct, and to make the matters worse some self-inflicted wounds. Although the series is locked at 2-2 India is lucky to be in this position with this kind of performance in the series. The batting department fared well with a great opening stand between Dhawan and Rohit Sharma. The decision to send Rahul ahead of Virat Kohli came under a lot of criticism but it was a calculated gamble that didn’t pay off. Indians took 4 specialist bowlers in the match and hoped to get the remaining overs out of Kedar Jadhav and Shankar. Aussies did not allow that to happen and that’s where the game got away from India.
Australia Team Preparations
Australia put up a superb performance to stop the men in blue and equalized the ODI series and the onus now is with them for a series victory. It will be a great achievement for the team and will take their confidence to another level going into the World Cup. In the 4th match, it looked as if they are going to fall short of the big target put up by the Indians. But Ashton Turner had other ideas as he smashed his way to take his team to an unlikely victory. All the Australia’s batsmen Finch, Khawaja, Maxwell, and Stoinis are in good nick with the only exception of Shaun Marsh. The bowling attack looks well balanced with Behrendorff in the side supporting Pat Cummins and co. Jhye Richardson and Zampa are doing a good job aiding the inform Cummins.
But despite all the negative aspects going against them, I think India will win the final match and clinch the series. There is nothing in it though. Both teams are great ones and are hard fighters and no one is going to back away in the decider. A great match in store for the spectators and my money goes with India for the last match.
