India defeated Bangladesh by an innings in the first test match played between the two countries at Indore in the ongoing test series. The second test match between the two countries will be played at Eden Gardens Kolkata. Both the teams will preparing for the match and will be looking to get things right for the match. The pink ball to be used for the match is likely to assist the faster bowlers. The pink ball has a longer seam than compared to the red ball and the Eden Gardens wicket is likely to have grass on it. The impetus gained by Indians early in the series is likely to continue in this match as well. This is the first day-night test match to be played by the Indians and they will be keen on the experience.
India team preparations
Indian fast bowlers Umesh Yadav, Mohammad Shami, and Ishant Sharma will be looking forward to continuing their domination of Bangladesh on bowling friendly conditions likely to be on offer for the match. Mohammad Shami was the pick of the bowlers in the first test but he was well aided by the other Indian bowlers. Mayank Agarwal was able to keep his dream form going with another big hundred. The Karnataka batsman scored his second double hundred in test matches. He hit 8 sixes in his innings. How the pink ball affects the performance of Indian spinners remains to be seen. The batting of Ajinkya Rahane must have been heartening for the Indian players as he is one of India’s premier test match batsman. He did miss out on a hundred but did enough to restore the faith of management in him. Having Jadeja as the main all-rounder is a definite help for the Indian batting lineup as they are playing him at number six slot. It makes for a long batting lineup with Ashwin, Saha and Umesh Yadav to follow.
Bangladesh team preparations
Mushfiqur Rahim batted well for Bangladesh in both innings but was unable to garner assistance from others to pose a serious challenge to the talented Indian bowling attack. Abu Zayed was the only bowler to make an impact on the powerful Indian batting lineup. He took 4 wickets in an otherwise ordinary bowling performance by the Bangladeshis. The Bangladesh reserve opening batsman Saif Hassan is out of contention for the second test and Imrul Kayes and Shadman Islam will continue opening the innings for Bangladesh. The number 3 slot will be occupied by the skipper Mominul Haque. There are 3 wicket-keeping batsmen in the batting lineup Mohammad Mithun, Liton Das, and Mushfiqur Rahim who will be occupying the middle order. The spin bowling department will be manned by Mehidy Hasan and Mahmudullah. Ebadat Hossain might make way for Ebadat Hossain due to the pink ball scenario.
As one might guess, India will start as favorites for the match and will be looking to continue the momentum going into this match. They will be focused on the match though. Bangladesh has the task cut out for them as they attempt winning the match against all odds. I will go with India to win the match and the series.
