Both India and South Africa begin their preparations for the T20I world cup to be played next year. This 3 matches T20I series between the two countries will be used as a way of trying out various combinations for the event. South Africa did not play any international cricket going into this series after the ODI world cup while India dominated the West Indies in all formats of the game in the Caribbean. India beat South Africa to go 1-0 up at Mohali. The seven-wicket win saw Virat Kohli scoring a superb 72 not out to ease India through the match. The first match of the series was played in Dharamsala and it was washed out due to rain without any play.
India team preparations
India after a frustrating start to the series in Dharamsala will be looking to maintain a winning record going into the T20I world cup. The way things stand India cannot lose the T20I series but they will be keen to win the series against Proteas. In the Mohali encounter, it was Deepak Chahar who laid the foundation for the victory with a burst of 2 wickets which included the prize scalp of Ryan Hendricks along with Bavuma. The promising Navdeep Saini took the other crucial wicket of Quinton de Kock and managed to keep his form going from West Indies. Indians were never in danger of losing track of the smallish target. Shikhar Dhawan scored 40 before the skipper Virat Kohli put the hammer down to get the hosts through with an over to spare.
South Africa team preparations
Faf du Plessis chose to play for Kent in England to prepare for the upcoming test series. De Kock was named the captain of the team in his absence. Many regulars in the team were ignored such as Chris Morris, Aiden Markram, Lungi Ngidi, and de Bruyn. The newcomers who took their place were Bavuma, Fortuin, and Nortje. Bavuma and the new skipper Quinton De Kock batted well in the second match at Mohali. But the later order batsmen could not match the same intensity and the team failed to put up a decent total on the board for Indians to chase. Shamsi and Phehlukwayo were the picks of the bowlers for South Africa as they tried their best for their team.
Hardik Pandya is slated to make a comeback in the team for this match. He will take the place of Bhuvaneshwar Kumar for the game. Rain is expected to play spoilsport at Bengaluru for this match on Sunday. India leads the series and is overwhelming favorites to win the match and the series.
