The two lowly ranked teams in IPL viz Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals recorded victories in their last matches and have sounded a warning bell to the team above them in the points table. They are yet not out of the tournament technically and desperate teams can perform miracles and this is just a game. RCB will take on Mumbai Indians in their next encounter at the Wankhede Stadium tomorrow. It is a great opportunity for the RCB team as Mumbai having lost the last match will be slightly down mentally and RCB will try to take advantage of this situation. However, Mumbai has won 4 out of their 7 matches and are in the top half of the table while RCB cannot afford to drop another match.
Mumbai Indians Team Preparations
Both their openers Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock played excellent knock to raise a big total in their last match and especially the South African was in great touch. But the Mumbai middle order did not live up to the expectations and players such as Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya could not accelerate in the end overs sufficiently although Pandya hit some big blows to ensure that Mumbai reaches a decent total. But Jos Butler has other ideas as he tore into the Mumbai attack and made the chase look easy. Alzarri Joseph took 6 wickets in his first match but went for 75 runs in his next 5 overs. Mumbai will be better off bringing back the experienced Malinga for the remainder of the tournament. Despite the loss, Mumbai will be happy with the fact that Rohit Sharma got some runs under his belt. Jasprit Bumrah is bowling well again and is somewhat supported by Rahul Chahar, Behrendorff and Pandya brothers. The bowling needs to tighten up in the last few overs and do a better restriction job.
Royal Challengers Bangalore Team Preparations
Their last match must have been a massive sigh of relief for Virat Kohli as RCB recorded their first win of the season against K11P. But it was the same old duo of Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers that got them through and anchored the chase. These two seem to have accepted the fact that they are going to have to score runs practically in every match for RCB to have any chances of victories. One positive aspect for RCB is that Dale Steyn has joined the team and that is a big boost to the morale of the team. Otherwise, Chahal continues to lead the bowling challenge but will get some much-needed support due to the inclusion of Dale Steyn. But Pollard has a great record against Chahal and will be looking to get after him.
Mumbai Indian have played better cricket in the IPL 2019 so far and have been more consistent than RCB. They are also playing at home but the Bangalore duo of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers is beginning to look good together and that has added another dimension to the team fortunes. Whether it will translate into victories for RCB remains to be seen. But I will go with Mumbai with this one.
