Pakistan wrapped up the ODI series 2-0 and they begin the T20I series as favorites as well. The heavily depleted Sri Lankan side doesn’t look to be a match for the Pakistan team. Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by 5 wickets in the second T20I but Sri Lankans did show some promise in the match. However, Pakistan is a strong side and they proved to be a bit too much for the Sri Lankans. The T20I series shifts to Gaddafi stadium in Lahore and the home team will keep their foot on the paddle for the series. In the recent past, Pakistan has won all the last 5 matches played against Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka has been in transition for a long time now and is struggling quite a bit as a result. The 10 players pulling out of the series due to security reasons has made matters worse for them.
Pakistan team preparations
Pakistan goes into the T20I series with a huge advantage. They have a powerful batting unit with Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, and Haris Sohail being in good touch. To add to the firepower there is Iftikhar Ahmed who can make a difference down the order. Umar Akmal’s return to the team will be an interesting speculation. The Pakistan bowling has plenty of variety with seamer Usman Shinwari coming good in the second match. He also bowled well in the high scoring 3rd match. He along with Mohammad Amir will play the key roles for Pakistan in the T20I matches. Amir was also among wickets in the 3rd match and the Wahab Riaz is also bowling well. The presence of leg spinner Shadab Khan will only increase the worries for the Sri Lankan batting line.
Sri Lanka team preparations
There is plenty on the plate of Dasun Shanaka to think over. He will be happy that his inexperienced batting lineup has shown dedication. Firstly there was that amazing partnership between Jayasuriya and Shanaka in the second ODI after they resurrected the innings from 28 for 5. In the 3rd match, Danushka Gunathilaka hit a superb 133 and the cameo played by Shanaka showed that there is plenty of talent in that inexperienced Sri Lankan batting lineup. In the bowling department, they will be banking on Nuwan Pradeep and Lakshan Sandakan. Jayasuriya can be handy with his off-spin and can be crucial for the Sri Lankan fortunes.
The Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore has witnessed 6 T20I matches so far and the surface here will assist with batting. The highest total put up here was 197 for 5 by Pakistan in September 2017. The first ODI pitch will be good for batting and spinners will have a lot to say in the latter part of the series. Considering the recent form and the fact that they are playing at home Pakistan begins the series as overwhelming favorites.
