The historic series between Sri Lanka and Pakistan finally got underway after rain played spoilsport in the first match of the series. Pakistan got off to a brilliant start with a terrific hundred by Babar Azam which took them to a huge total over 300 runs. Sri Lanka promptly slumped to 28 for 5 in response but the score was provided some respectability Shehan Jayasuriya, Dasun Shanaka, and Wanindu Hasaranga. It was all in vain though as the damage was done to the batting line up at the front. Usman Shinwari was the wrecker in chief for Pakistan and he ended up with a 5 wicket haul.
Pakistan team preparations
Pakistan is unlikely to make any changes to the winning team for the 3rd ODI. The pitch seemed like getting slower by the day and a quick start in the powerplay would have gone a long way towards setting up a platform for Sri Lanka. But Usman Shinwari ensured that no such thing occurred for Sri Lanka. He produced a fantastic spell of pace bowling which quickly dashed any hopes Sri Lanka might have harbored of getting off to a flier. Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Amir were right on target and they bowled economically as Shinwari cleaned up the top order at the other end. The Pakistan victory, however, was set up by the brilliant Babar Azam hundred in the first innings. He was well aided by Fakhar Zaman who scored a fifty upfront. Iftikhar Ahmed slammed some lusty blows to ensure that Pakistan reached a total over 300 runs.
Sri Lanka team preparations
After the initial collapse, Sri Lanka did put up a fight mainly through Jayasuriya and Shanaka. The 177 run stand took the score to a semblance of respectability. They kept finding the boundary every over and kept the hopes alive be keeping the asking rate under 10. But when Shinwari returned to the bowling attack while taking a fifer he dragged the things back in Pakistan’s favor by getting Jayasuriya out. Shanaka also fell in the next over to complete the end for Sri Lanka. It was just a formality after that. Earlier the Sri Lankan bowling was quite ordinary especially against Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam. None of the Sri Lankan bowlers made an impression on the powerful Pakistan batting lineup.
Pakistan looks all set to win the 3rd ODI and wrap up the series 2-0. They are a better side in all departments of the game and the depleted Sri Lankan side is unlikely to provide any resistance to their powerful opponents playing in front of their home crowd. I will go with Pakistan for this match.
